- Steve Croxford, past Chairman of the Kennel Club UK-
We are a nation of dog lovers, and our dogs are by our side throughout every high and low we experience. Each dog teaches us something new, whether as a dog owner or as a dog specialist, they all deal with situations differently as not one of them have read the rule book! As such each one of us dog people need to take our experiences and apply them to the dog in front of us. However in the last 20 years, science and education have grown exponentially in the canine world, and the information available to us can be confusing and overwhelming at times. We have to learn from our ourselves and others, embrace the progress and look forward to the future with our canine companions.
This book takes you from preconception, bringing home your puppy, through the developmental stages and growth patterns, looking briefly at different dog sports, and all things associated with doing more with your dog, touching on common injuries and pain expressions, through to geriatrics and the inevitable euthanasia. This is a unique perspective, and the only one of its kind currently. There are many books on dog behaviour, training and puppies, but nothing on the whole of life perspective.
I’ve written this book for you, as a dog professional, dog owner and dog lover to support you to make the best decisions for your dog, the information given is based in science, as well as experience and learning, it will enable you to understand better how their whole body works throughout the different life stages.
Use this book as a manual, it can be your comprehensive guide to owning and looking after your dog. It's designed to be a book that you can pick up when you have a question or worry about your dog, or read straight through, or dip in and out of when you want.
Whether you are just starting out on journey with your new puppy, or have had multiple dogs, there is a wealth of information you can glean in this book to help you understand your dog better.

About the Author
The natural progression for a girl that loved being outside with the animals, was to go to agricultural college however, after years working with cows, I retrained as a Chiropractor with the plan to only work with animals but, in those days, we had to train with people first.
This has led to 22 years of trying to not treat people and concentrate on the animal aspect, but I still treat just a handful of people, who seem not to want to let me go!
After a few years treating, I found further education and in 2004 I qualified from the European Academy for Veterinary Chiropractic, soon to morph into the International Academy. I was sought out to start helping with the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association Managing Committee, and became head of research for a while, then head of the education standards, and part of the examining committee. After 7 years and 2 research papers later, I stepped back from this.

During this time, I also started teaching animal chiropractic to vets and people chiropractors in Germany, UK and US. This I did from 2005 - 2018 and loved every aspect of the job - researching material, delivering the syllabus, teaching the practical and helping with the dissection.
The knowledge gained from these times was second to none, as we could delve into various aspects of the dog and understand it from every angle.
I have also been awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Chiropractors, within the Animal Faculty, this came in 2017, and swiftly after this I became Chair of the faculty. This role again has seen me go through the internal workings of the committees, setting up various forms of continuous education for other animal chiropractors, designing the core competencies of this faculty, and cementing its role within the Royal College of Chiropractors overall.
I was introduced to the sport of agility through meeting Rachel and Nutmeg, Team vet and competitor and I went on to become Team Chiropractor for Team GB Agility teams from 2009-2015, this has heavily influenced my career, further completing the Canine Sports Medicine course with Canine Rehab Institute in US, and then managed to get on to and pass the CCRP, vet rehabilitation qualification, with University of Tennessee, the first chiropractor to be admitted onto the course, and to pass!
My wonderful animal career has led to far flung shores, introduced me to people and friends I would never have come across and has been quite exciting over the years. I have completed all the advanced animal chiropractic courses that currently exist.
